Expatriates welfare and overseas employment minister Nurul Islam B Sc on Sunday said that Qatar would recruit Bangladeshi workers for its all sectors including business, health, engineering, and education and information technology.
‘Qatari minister told me that they want to recruit salesman, nurse, doctors, engineers and office staff from Bangladesh,’ he said while speaking at press conference at Probasi Kalyan Bhaban.
During his recent visit to Qatar, his counterpart Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Minister Issa Saad Al-Fafali Al- Nuaimi has assured him of recruiting three lakh workers from Bangladesh in next two years, he said.
The minister said that Qatar needed a huge number of skilled and unskilled workers for construction projects ahead of the Football World Cup 2022.
Nurul Islam said that the Qatari prime minister has also assured of hiring Bangladeshi worekers in large numbers.
The minister also said that recruiting agencies must not exploit jobseekers by charging large sums of money from migrant workers.
A joint working group meeting is scheduled to be held in March in Dhaka to start the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, he added.
Nurul Islam has gone to Qatar on a three-day official visit. He returned on February 6.
According to Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training, Qatar recruited 1,23,000 workers from Bangladesh in 2015.
EWOE ministry secretary Khandaker Md Ifthekhar Haider, BMET director general Begum Shamsun Nahar and senior officials of the ministry were present at the press conference.
