MOM moots proposal to raise labour clearance fee

The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has mooted a proposal to hike the labour clearance fee for foreign workers from the present RO201. The fee is paid by companies every two years during the renewal of work contracts.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Saeed bin Nasser al Saadi, advisor to H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, said, “The proposal is before the Cabinet. It has nearly been a decade since we last raised the fee. The number of foreign workers has gone up over the years but we haven’t raised the fee at all. Our labour clearance fee is lowest in the GCC. This is the right time to raise the fee.”

The fee excludes the service fee. Saadi said that many government bodies like the municipality have raised their service fees to boost revenues. “The housing ministry has also raised fees for various services.”
