Migrant Khalil returns home serving jail in Egypt

Bangladeshi migrant Khalil has returned home empty handed after serving two week imprisonment in Cairo, capital city of Egypt.

Khalil hailing from Beparipara village of Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district had gone to Egypt two years ago to work in a Biscuit factory in Cairo paying Tk 2.5 lakh with help of relative broker.

‘I would get monthly wage of 2500 Egyptian pound, which is equivalent to Tk 10,000,’ he said while giving a short interview with migrationnewsbd.com on Friday.

The Egyptian police had arrested him along with other five Bangladeshi fellows as they escaped workplace in search of better job, he said, adding that they had to suffer imprisonment in Mugamma Tahrir jail in Cairo.

The working environment in Egypt was not good enough to earn money, said Khalil, a father of 4 year old girl baby.

 ‘I have seen many Bangladeshi workers were trying to escape Egypt for going to Libya. Many of the workers were trying to back home,’ he said.

Khalil is now worried thinking how to feed seven members family.

‘I just returned home losing jobs in Egypt. I am really worried about my family,’ he said, adding that he had a plan to start working at home as soon as possible.

According to Bangladesh Embassy in Cairo, seven Bangladeshi migrant workers were arrested by Egyptian police on December 23 for illegal staying in the North African country.

The arrested Bangladeshi workers were identified as Md Rasel Howlader, Md Miraj Howladar and Ruhul Amin of Dhanisapa village, Rajib Miah and Alamin of Char Gobinapur village in Mathbaria Upazila while Shahjahan Mia of Golbunia village in Bhandaria Upazila. They were all from Pirojpur district.

Another victim, Khalil hailed from Beparipara village in Monohardi Upazila under Narsingdi district. 

First secretary (labour) Zubaida Mannan in a letter said that the embassy had issued necessary documents in favor of them and has been in supervision of their repatriation process.
