A total of 71 Bangladeshi nationals have died in Malaysia in January of the current year, according to Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
Labour counselor Md Sayedul Islam in a letter to the expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry informed that of the deceased, 26 Bangladeshis were documented workers while 35 migrants were undocumented.
Rests of them, there were four Bangladeshi tourists, 5 professionals and one student from Bangladesh, said the HC letter.
Most of the Bangladeshis have died of cardiac attack and stroke, according to the causes of deaths mentioned in the letter.
The labour counselor also informed that one of the deceased was buried in Malaysia and rest 70 bodies were sent back home.
Eight of the deceased were eligible for compensation, he said.
According to Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), over 6,400 Bangladeshi workers have gone to work in Malaysian in January.
Over six lakh workers are currently working in the East Asian country, said BMET officials.
