150 Bangladeshi diasporas enlisted in Greece, Italy

Under ongoing diaspora registration, 150 Bangladeshi expatriates in Greece and Italy were enlisted last week, officials said.

Wage Earners Welfare Board director general Gazi Mohammad Julhas told New Age Tuesday that Bangladeshis abroad could get themselves enlisted with the WEWB online.

He requested Bangladeshis living abroad to get themselves and the members of their families registered.

He said that enlistment would entitle them to get the benefits of WEWB’s welfare fund.

On June 9, Expatriate’s Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam inaugurated the online registration of Bangladeshi diaspora.

The WEWB set the per head registration fee at Tk 3,500 which should be paid to Bangladesh missions abroad online in foreign currency of same value.

WEWB system analyst M Mamun Or Rashid said that the registration form had been posted on the website of the welfare board for the benefit of all non-resident Bangladeshis.

Mamun said that registered Bangladeshis would be members of the WEWB and they would get computer generated membership certificates as soon as they deposit the fees online.

The welfare board opened desks at airports to help migrant workers.

The board takes projects for the welfare of migrant workers and their dependents and provides financial assistance to them in their distress.
