2.21 lakh Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia legalized

Over 2.21 lakh Bangladeshi workers among other foreign nationals employed in Malaysia have been legalized up to June 30 this year.

The Star, a Malaysian newspaper quoted its deputy prime minister and also home minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying that that there were 1.78 million legal foreign workers in the country.

He also said Indonesian workers accounted for the highest number of foreign workers in Malaysia at 728,870, followed by Nepal at 405,898, Bangladeshi at 221,089, Myanmar at 127,705, India at 114,455, Pakistan at 59,281 and Philippines at 56,153.

‘We also have 29,039 Vietnamese, 15,399 Chinese, and 12,603 Thais working here,’ he said in a written reply to a question by Teresa Kok, a member of  Malaysian parliament from Democratic Action Party (DAP-Seputeh), who asked for a breakdown of the number of foreign workers in the country.
