Bangladesh Joins Global Compact for Migration in Mexico

A high profile Bangladesh delegation joined the meeting on Global Compact for Migration and the Stocktaking Meeting on safe, regular and orderly migration being held in Puerto Vallarta city of Mexico on Monday.

Bangladesh team led by chairman of the Parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development Md Israfil Alam were taking part in the global meeting on migration.

Other delegation members included the lawmakers and members of Parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development, civil society members and development partners.

In his facebook status, WARBE Development chairman Syed Saiful Haque, also a delegation member of Bangladesh team, said ‘We are here to participate "Global Compact for Migration" Stocktaking Meetings..4-6 December 2017.’

According to fact sheet, the 4 to 6 December meeting has become a major step toward drafting the Global Compact for Migration, a landmark intergovernmental agreement that will cover all dimensions of international migration.

It has been the moment when world leaders would forge consensus on political and financial commitments in line with the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants and the Convention on the Rights of the migrants.

This meeting has been taking stock of preparations toward a global compact on safe, regular and orderly migration in accordance with the UN General Assembly's 6 April 2017

The government of Mexico was hosting the global meeting.
