Bangladesh hopeful of reopening Malaysia soon

State minister for the Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmad on Sunday expressed his hope that the Malaysian labour would be reopened to the Bangladeshi workers very soon.

The reopening decision will come up after having joint working group meeting between Bangladesh and Malaysia to be held in Kuala Lumpur on May 30-31, he said.

The state minister made the remarks while speaking at an opinion exchange meeting ahead of Iftar mahfil at Abacus Centre in the city.

Imran Ahmad has recently returned home after paying a visit in Malaysian as the country stopped recruiting workers from Bangladesh since September last year.

After Eid, he said that another JWG meeting between Bangladesh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be held in Dhaka and many issues were expected to be resolved.

 Imran Ahmad said that the ministry has already identified many problems related to recruitment and migration issues in the Middle East and Malaysia.

Those problems would be resolved soon, he said, seeking cooperation of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies and media.

The state minister said that the government set target to send 1000 skilled workers from each upazila and already campaigns for safe migration started across the country.

EWOE ministry’s secretary Rownaq Jahan who presided over the meeting said that the ministry emphasized on grooming skilled manpower and sending them abroad to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration.

Speaking as special guest, BAIRA president Benjir Ahmed said that sending workers abroad has become a major problem for recruiting agencies.

All problems would be resolved through discussion with the stakeholders, he said.

The BAIRA president invited the state minister to visit his BAIRA office and have talks on the manpower issues.
