Migration Steering Committee Meeting Held

The members of the National Steering Committee on Migration had a meeting at the conference room of the expatriates welfare and overseas employment ministry on Wednesday, said officials.

The senior officials and representatives from the government’s different ministries, departments and national organizations attended the meeting at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban, they said.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment minister Imran Ahmad presided over the meeting and urged all attending stakeholders to extend their cooperation to ensure welfare of the migrant workers.

He said that the country’s migrant workers were contributing to the national development by sending their remittances and the migrant workers should be protected from any kind of harassment.

The EWOE minister stressed the need for intensifying monitoring of the concerned officials to ensure supreme services to the migrant workers.

‘All stakeholders will have to play pioneering role to ensure social security to returnee migrants,’ he said.

Imran Ahmad said that the government has taken necessary steps to connect the returnee migrants to the mainstreaming development.

EWOE secretary Rownaq Jahan moderated over the meeting.

Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division’s senior secretary Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, Technical and Madrasa Education Division secretary Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, women and children affairs secretary Qamrun Nahar, rural development and cooperative secretary Kamal Uddin Talukdar, foreign affairs (bilateral and consular) secretary Kamrul Ahsan, Wage Earners Welfare Board director general Gazi Mohammad Julhas, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training director general Salim Reza, Bangladesh Overseas Employment Services Limited managing director Maran Kumar Chakraborty, EWOE ministry additional secretaries Ahmed Munirus Saleheen and Nojibul Islam attended the meeting.

Besides senior officials equivalent ranks to joint secretaries and deputy sectaries from different ministries, departments, and national organizations were also present at the meeting.
