Bangladesh Considers Sending Skilled Workers Abroad

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Thursday said that the government would emphasize sending abroad more skilled workers in the coming days to reduce the vulnerabilities of the migrants amidst the changed circumstances occurred due to spread of corona virus globally.

The EWOE minister made the remarks while presiding over at an inter-ministerial meeting on labour migration in the Corona virus pandemic.  Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen also joined the online meeting, according to a press release.

Speaking at the meeting, Imran Ahmad said that the government has already readied Tk 700 crore for providing loans to the migrant workers returning home due to COVID-19..

Besides, the minister said that the government would take steps to provide skill trainings to the returnees to prepare them as per global demand for re-sending them abroad.

He also said that necessary steps have been taken to certify the migrants’ Recognition of prior Learning.

The EWOE minister informed that a step has also been taken to prepare the comprehensive database of the returnee migrants.

EWOE ministry’s secretary Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen moderated the online meeting, attended by Civil Aviation ministry’s senior secretary Mohibul Haque, foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen, Principal Staff Officer Lt Gen Mahfuzur Rahman, Home ministry’s additional secretary Azharul Huq, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training’s redirector general Shamsul Alam, among others were present at the virtual meeting.
